Gallery Simon is pleased to present <43200 sec.> by Shin il Kim on view at Gallery Simon from May 16 to July 6, 2024. Shin il Kim has been exploring the 'mind' of noticing an infinite continuum of things, putting the brakes on our habitual categorization and naming. The artist reminds us of the movements and connections between things and comprehensive root, ‘there’, which can be easily forgotten when things are reduced to cause-and-effect and purpose. By doing this, Kim’s art aims for the emergence, the progressive art work of the variability and unpredictability through the sensitive mind of every moment. The title “43200 sec.” corresponds to the converted twelve hours into seconds—the duration of the time per day with an active consciousness. By means of second, the unit of time fragmenting more finely than hours or minutes, it is the metaphor for the practice of time delicately approaching closer to ‘there’. Through this exhibition, we invite you to experience an infinite approach to the pure origin away from the subject's compulsory obstinacy and division.
