갤러리 시몬이 서울 통의동에 새로운 전시공간을 만들었습니다. 이곳은 조선의 21대 왕 영조대왕(1694~1776)의 왕자시절 살았던 창의궁터입니다. 영조는 즉위 초부터 탕평책을 펼쳐 과열된 당쟁을 해소하였고 균역법을 실시하여 백성들의 부담을 덜어주었으며 가혹한 형벌을 폐지하는 등 정치, 경제, 사회적 문제점들을 해결하여 태평성대를 이루었고 직위기간 52년 동안 위대한 업적을 남긴 강력한 군주였습니다. 그러나 창의궁은 일제시대를 거치며 소실되었고 이러한 역사, 문화적 의미를 지닌 곳에서 갤러리 시몬은 새롭게 시작합니다.
Gallery Simon has created a new exhibition space in Tongui-dong, Seoul. This is the site of Changui Palace where King Yeongjo (1694 ~ 1776), the 21st King of Joseon, lived when he was a young prince. Yeongjo had carried out the anti-corruption law to relieve the rage of faction from the beginning of accession to the throne. He had also established new taxation system to lessen the burden of the people and abolished the severe punishment, and solved political, economic and social problems. It was a reign of peace during King Yeongjo's 52 years rule. Even though Changui Palace had destroyed through Japanese colonial era, Gallery Simon has newly started at this place that has significant historical and cultural meanings.

갤러리 시몬은 1994년 개관 이래 현대미술의 흐름을 보여주는 전시들을 기획해왔습니다. 노상균, 배형경, 강애란, 최선명, 권소원, 김주현, 김신일, 구자영, 이창원, 김지은 등 전속 작가들의 개인전을 비롯하여, 그룹전으로는 국내외 무대에서 활동하는 새로운 작가들을 선보이는 "Arrival" 전, 세계적인 미디어 작품을 선보이는 "Digital Transitions" 전, 검증된 외부 큐레이터들의 기획전 등을 열고 있습니다. 갤러리 시몬은 전시를 통해 작가들의 예술성과 신념, 시대 정신을 보여주며 현대미술에서의 새로운 미학적 시도를 하고 있습니다. 또한 한국 현대미술의 위상을 드높이고자 국내 미술관은 물론 해외 유수의 미술관 및 갤러리들과 지속적인 교류를 다지며 역량 있는 작가들을 지원하고 있습니다.
Founded in 1994, Gallery Simon has dedicated to presenting the most current and significant tendencies of Korean and international contemporary art. The gallery is distinguished by the premiere collections of Korean artists such as Noh, Sang-Kyoon; Airan Kang; Joohyun Kim; Shin Il Kim; Sunmyung Choi; Sowon Kwon; Bae Hyung Kyung; Ku, Ja-young; Ji Eun Kim and Changwon Lee. We are pursuing the highest level of aesthetic standards in each and every exhibition of the artists.
One of our essential exhibitions is “Digital Transitions”, a group exhibition introducing artists with digital media art. Moreover, the “Arrival” exhibition introduces emerging artists who have been demonstrating their talents and abilities on the domestic and international stage. Gallery Simon holds exhibitions by independent curators who are verified and specialized in their field. We express great artistic values, the spirit of the time and beliefs of the artists and makes new aesthetic attempts in contemporary art through these exhibitions. Through partnerships with domestic museums of art as well as international art museums and galleries, we endeavor to discover promising artists and develop Korean contemporary art in the world art scene.
